Mock disaster management training in Harrison County

Today in Gulfport, the Harrison County Emergency Operations Center is firing on all cylinders.
A large group of public safety officials from across Harrison County are holding mock training exercises to ensure their plans and preparations are complete as we head further into hurricane season. Officials with MEMA are onsite leading the operational training exercises.
Harrison County EMA Director Rupert Lacy tells News 25 this method of hands-on training is the best way to prepare for the real thing. “It’s a few new skills, a few new tools that we’re bringing out of the box this year, but it’s a camaraderie. We don’t need to shake hands and exchange business cards when the disaster happens. We need to be upfront, get people to work in, sit in those chairs, work from those duty stations so that they know what’s going on and they’re better prepared when we go into the emergency.”
Hurricane season runs from June 1st to November 30th with the peak period occurring from early August through the end of October.
