MLK Coastwide Celebration underway in South Mississippi

Here in South Mississippi, the MLK Coastwide Celebration is already underway as we continue to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Events started Wednesday with a ‘Financing the Dream’ seminar to help map out your dreams of becoming a homebuyer or entrepreneur.

The celebration continues Monday with the MLK Day Parade in Biloxi. The parade will come down Division Street on to Caillavet and then ends at MGM Park.

It all culminates with the Battle of the Bands at noon on Monday. Nine bands will be featured with Alcorn State University Sounds of Dyn-o-Mite leading the charge.

High school and middle school bands from New Orleans, Mobile, and Jackson will also perform. MLK Coastwide Celebration Committee Member Sheena Myles said, “Keeping Dr. King’s name alive and relevant in the mouths and minds of babes is as important now as it was before them. It seems that now they are only focusing on Dr. Martin Luther King, but the MLK Coastwide Committee goes further. We focus on all of the Black History legends.”

Tickets for the Battle of the Bands are $5. You can buy them at or you can purchase them at the gate.
