Mississippi Treasury giving away $250 scholarships to celebrate America’s 250th birthday

JACKSON, Miss. (WXXV)- To celebrate America’s 250th birthday, the Mississippi Treasury is giving away 10 Mississippi Affordable College Savings (MACS) scholarships.

Each scholarship is worth $250. State Treasurer David McRae says around 2,000 people have signed up for the contest so far.

“The MACS scholarship is a great scholarship because it’s more like what I call a checking account. Normally you put in as little as $25, and it can go to room, board, tuition, parking pass, books, anything someone would use on a for school, they can be used for. There are no restrictions on what these scholarships can be used for, and they’re very flexible, very great. They can be used for a four-year institution, a two-year institution, or vocational training. We’re seeing so many people normally sign up for these, but the scholarship sweepstakes that we’re doing with America 250 has been an amazing success so far,” said McRae.

The deadline to enter the contest is 11:59pm on July 3, 2026. All Mississippi students aged Pre-K through 12th grade are eligible to apply (only one submission per student will be counted). The winners will be randomly selected on July 10, 2026.
