Mississippi State spring game recap
In Starkville, the Mississippi State football program got its first preview of life under Joe Moorhead at Saturday’s maroon and white spring game.
The maroon team was comprised of first-team players and predictably took down the back-up laden white squad 28-10.
Home run plays are supposed to be a calling card of MSU’s new offense under the first-year head coach who comes away feeling positive after his first Super Bulldog Weekend. “We talk all the time about the two biggest factors in determining the outcome of games are turnover margin and the explosive play battle, so that was kind of a re-occurring theme throughout the spring that the defense did a good job getting it turned over, offense has to protect it better. And then offensively we did like we did today, create a bunch of explosive plays. So it’s kind of that give and take where you’re happy one side is doing it and wish the other side was doing it better.”
Mississippi State kicks off the new campaign with a home date versus Stephen F. Austin on September 1st.
