Mississippi State Regional Reaction
Had the end of the regular season gone differently for the Mississippi State baseball team perhaps the Bulldogs would be hosting a regional of their own, but instead it’s off to Hattiesburg.
Including the SEC Tournament, the Diamond Dawgs lost seven out of their last nine conference games and 10 out of their last 15. So despite missing out on the chance to be playing in Starkville this weekend, the Hattiesburg Regional offers plenty of familiar faces for MSU.
The Bulldogs are paired up with South Alabama for the fourth time this year after taking two of three from the Jags during the regular season.
Here’s the reaction from this morning’s announcement at Buffalo Wild Wings in Starkville. Mississippi State Head Baseball Coach Andy Cannizaro said, “I always dreamed of taking a team into the postseason and taking them to a regional and just doing everything you could to help them win and to see our name pop up on the screen today was a really cool feeling. It was a really cool moment for myself and my family and our baseball program.”
Mississippi State Pitcher Konnor Pilkington said, “We’ve gotten to see those guys and they’ve gotten to see us, so really and truly it’s an advantage for us but it’s also a disadvantage because you’ve already exposed yourself to the teams and they probably have a good little scouting report on us and everything, but in the end it doesn’t even really matter. It is playoff baseball and anything can happen.”
MSU beat USA back in 2013 in their only other post-season meeting.
