Mississippi Sound Coalition meeting

Representatives from the 12 city and county governments across the Coast will be at the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies tomorrow morning.

It’s the regular meeting of the Mississippi Sound Coalition. During this meeting the group will take up a proposed new law to send to Congress for consideration called ‘The Mississippi Sound and Lake Pontchartrain Act of 2020.”

This act is to ensure a seat at the table for Mississippi to support the restoration and protection of the Mississippi Sound from future openings of the Bonnet Carre Spillway. The meeting is open to the public.

Biloxi Coalition Special Counsel Gerald Blessey says it is important to maintain transparency with the community. “It’s very critical that all Mississippians know about the devastation that occurred in the Mississippi Sound from the Bonnet Carre Spillway being opened. It’s really critical for Coast residents to know that a lot of action could be taken that would restore the sound and protect it from future harm.”

The meeting kicks off at 10 a.m. in the IMMS conference room.
