Mississippi Power preparing for hurricane season

With hurricane season just days away, Mississippi Power is gearing up, preparing for what could be in store.

The company discussed this year’s storm plans and logistics to prepare for possible power outages during a hurricane.

News 25 was able to take a tour of the central hub where a lot of dispatching and communication issues are worked out in the midst of a storm.

In the situation a hurricane does hit the area, this room is packed with people trying to help customers in need, even to the point of calling in workers from different states to assist. Joe Cole with Mississippi Power Operations said, “Even more so during an emergency, customer service really steps into place. So, it’s not just about getting the lights back on. It’s also helping people get their lights back on is the start of restoration.”

The central hub for Mississippi Power is managed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They encourage customers to take the time to prepare now for the hurricane season.
