Mississippi Power aiding in Hurricane Laura relief efforts

Mississippi Power is sending a storm team to Louisiana to assist in the Hurricane Laura restoration effort.

Approximately 85 employees departed from Gulfport early this Friday morning, heading to Baton Rouge. The storm team is excited to embark on their mission and ready to turn the lights back on.

As the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina approaches, it reminds them of the importance of coming together to assist other states in their natural disasters. Storm Team Leader Stephen Schruff said, “You know tomorrow is the anniversary for us. Fifteen years since Katrina. It’s a sad situation but glad to hear the surge wasn’t what we anticipated, but everyone wants to get there and help out.”

Vice President of Customer Service and Operation Fran Forehand said, “Whenever large storms hit any of our partner utilities, we all gather in that one area and pitch in where we can. In the end, our customers are in need regardless of which state we live in and I couldn’t be more proud of the job our guys do every single day to help do our part to make sure our community is safe.”

As of now there is no set return date for the workers, their return depends on the scope of the situation.
