Mississippi now has 13 deaths from COVID-19, health officials report

The Mississippi Department of Health Services reported Saturday morning that 13 people have died as a result of contracting COVID-19.

The numbers were updated as of 6 p.m. Friday. State health officials are updating once a day. There are 663 confirmed cases in the state.

Five additional deaths and 84 new cases were reported on Friday. The deaths were in Lee, Perry, Desoto, Sunflower and Tippah counties. Stone County does not have any reported cases. Tippah is the only county with more than one COVID-19 related death.

In South Mississippi, as of 6 p.m. Friday COVID-19 cases reported are 38 in Harrison, 33 in Jackson, 9 in Hancock, 23 in Pearl River and one in George counties.
