Mississippi Gulf Coast Softball Classic

The collegiate softball season is underway. Today, 11 teams are sliding into Gulfport for the third annual Mississippi Gulf Coast Softball Classic. Teams like Baylor, Southern Miss and Mississippi State will play all weekend long at the Gulfport Sportsplex.
Tonight, Southern Miss rallied to defeat Southeastern Louisiana 9-8 in extra innings. It was outfielder Sarah Evans who kept the Golden Eagles in the game in the sixth inning when she hit a two run home run to tie it up. Her parents were full of emotion after seeing the bomb. “It was her first homerun since her grandfather died, which recently happened I think just two weeks ago. So the mere fact that she’s pushed through that and persevered because they really shared her batting, he was constantly helping her out when she was in a slump and stuff like that. So, today we totally broke the mold. I think she’s out of it now.”
The tournament will last until Sunday. Admission is $10 for a day pass and $20 for a weekend pass.
