Mississippi Gulf Coast International Women’s Day March
Today is International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate equality for all and is the focal point of the Women’s Rights Movement.
All over the world, women are celebrating, marching, and fighting for their voices to be heard. Right here on the Coast, multiple women’s rights organizations are gearing up to march tomorrow.
The Mississippi Gulf Coast International Women’s Day March will begin tomorrow at the Long Beach Town Green.
In years past, families, children, women, and men marched alongside each other with signs showing their support.
League of Women Voters President Christy Wheeler says she will be marching for equal pay, adequate childcare, and much more. “We don’t have a whole bunch of things we need to be working for and that’s what we are advocating and that is one of the things that celebrating International Women’s Day means is that we get together and we say it is not one voice, it’s not two voices, it is many voices. We have an impact if we speak together, but we still have a ways to go.”
If you would like to march tomorrow, the march will last from 1 to 3 p.m. and they say anyone is welcome who believes in women’s rights.
