Mississippi gets funding for I-10 widening project

President Joe Biden announced today major transportation projects funded by bipartisan infrastructure law that will include a widening project for Interstate 10 here on the Coast.

Biden was in New York to announce the Hudson Tunnel Project, but he also announced other “mega” grants for projects across the country. The Mega grant program funds projects are too large or complex for traditional funding.

One of those grants is a $60 million that will go the state Department of Transportation to widen I-10 in Harrison and Hancock counties along a major freight corridor of regional significance.

Biden said the projects will create good-paying jobs – including union jobs and jobs that do not require a college degree. The projects will grow the economy, strengthen supply chains, improve mobility for residents, and make transportation systems safer for all users.

In addition to the I-10 widening project, other Mega Project grants include a bridge project that connects Kentucky and Ohio, a replacement of the Calcasieu River Bridge, improvements to Metra Union Pacific-North line in Illinois and a replacement of the Alligator River Bridge in North Carolina.
