Mississippi Gaming Commission request for casino in Diamondhead

Today, Diamondhead Mayor Tommy Schafer was sworn into office.
A few months ago, the gaming commission ruled against a request to approve a site in Diamondhead for a new casino. The request made by Jacob’s Entertainment would have been a first for the city.
Back in March, Schafer told News 25 he did not know what would happen since the commission had turned down approval for a site.
Today, the newly re-elected mayor spoke about the possibility of a casino in Diamondhead. “The city has property zoned for casinos, gaming entertainment, and any economic development things will be done in the appropriate manner. I don’t have anything to say about that right now.”
Permits for a new casino in Diamondhead have been denied twice. Once in 2008 and once more in 2014, each of these times was due to legal limitations. The request this year was turned down with no given reason.
