Mississippi election results now online
It’s been just over a month since Mississippians and voters across the U.S. cast their ballots in the November 3rd general election.
Now, certified results from the election in Mississippi are available on the Secretary of State’s website.
Data from the statewide election management systems showed a total of more than 1.3 million legal votes cast for the president of the United States which is about eight percent higher than the 1.2 million legal votes in 2016.
Mississippi saw a tremendous increase in absentee voting as well.
Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson says he’s pleased with how voting went here in Mississippi, crediting good planning and teamwork. “Early on we committed to going to all 82 counties and meeting with our Circuit Clerks and Election Commissioners. That was very well received and opened up the lines of communication so anytime there was an issue, anywhere around the state, they felt free and they had the ability to call our office and say hey, look, this is what we see, so having that ability to plan together, to put our plans in place early on-again we had hoped that COVID would be in the rearview mirror, but it wasn’t. So, not only did we have to look for outside influence, but we also had to keep our Mississippians safe when they went to the Circuit Clerks’ offices to vote absentee.”
