Mississippi Department of Marine Resources announces new leadership appointments

DMR Executive Director Joe Spraggins has announced the appointment of a new chief operating officer and chief scientific officer for the agency.

Patrick Levine has been named as the COO while Rick Burris will take over as chief scientific officer.

As chief operating officer, Levine will assist Spraggins in development, prioritization, and execution of the agency’s mission and policies.

Levine previously served as lieutenant colonel for the DMR Office of Marine Patrol and is a 20-year veteran of Mississippi Gulf Coast Law Enforcement.

As the DMR’s chief scientific officer, Burris will be responsible for the scientific and technical programs managed by the agency.

He will serve as the chief advisor to Spraggins, overseeing major administrative programs and projects for the DMR.
