Mississippi Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo check presentation
The winners of the Mississippi Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo reeled in a $20,000 check this morning for breaking the state shark record.
Robert Brett Rutledge and his team from Alabama took home the victory for the second year in a row after catching a bull shark over 350 pounds.
Additional checks were handed out to American Legion for over $3,000, Crewe of Gemini at $1,500, and the Princess Pageant for $3,000 in scholarship money.
President of the Mississippi Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo Richard Valdez tells News 25 this is the organization’s way of giving back to the community. “This was our 70th year. It takes about 115 thousand to 120 thousand to put this event on. All the guys down here are volunteers. They do it as a way to give back to the community and give to the fishermen.”
The previous record was a 203 pound bull shark caught in July 2016.
