Mississippi Construction Education Foundation Training Center opens in Gulfport

Today, the Mississippi Construction Education Foundation had its official grand opening for their new Gulfport location.

October is ‘National Careers in Construction Month’ and what better way for the Gulf Coast to celebrate than to cut the ribbon for the new Mississippi Construction Education Foundation Center. The training center located on Fastway Lane in Gulfport will serve as a companion to the center in Pearl, Mississippi. Mike Barkett said, “We have always wanted our own and so finally we have been able to get a brand new facility. We were able to have our board approve a new building and now we’re down on the Gulf Coast and have our own facility which allows us to do things that we have been wanting to do for many, many years.”

MCEF offers a number of training opportunities for careers in the trade industry, like plumbing, welding, electricity, and so much more.

Mike Upchurch, who has his own plumbing business, has a four year training program for his employees through MCEF. “If they don’t offer a trade that you need, they’ll work with you and they’ll custom a trade to fit whatever your needs are so they are real accommodating and we wouldn’t be where we are without the craft workers from MCEF.”

With more than 6,000 square feet of training and classroom space, the purpose of this training center is to help build upon the future of the Gulf Coast. “We also need electricians, we need plumbers, we need mechanical people and this is an opportunity to train people who live in the Gulf Coast and give them an opportunity to learn these skills and go to work at these commercial industries that we have available.”

And opportunity has already begun after classes started in September. For more information about MCEF visit their website.
