Mississippi community colleges join MS Optical Network

In the age of virtual learning, high speed internet is a must for all students.

That’s in part why C Spire announced the addition of the state’s 15 community colleges to Mississippi’s optical network, the state’s research and development program.

With the addition, the program will offer a fiber network, higher internet speeds, and more to the community colleges.

C Spire Company Spokesperson Dave Miller says providing these schools with better quality service is important because a large part of Mississippi’s workforce is made up of individuals who came through junior colleges. “They are the job engine for Mississippi in terms of the job’s that keep the economy going and growing in Mississippi. It’s very important that they have good internet access. One of the things that is really important for C Spire is that we are a Mississippi based company and we want to move Mississippi foward. One of the ways to do that is through technology. We want to become a technology leader.”

The community colleges join the state’s other universities and research facilities in the Mississippi Optical Network.
