Mississippi Career Prep Grant

Mississippi is just one of 24 states that have been awarded a national grant to further high school career prep programs.

The JP Morgan Chase and company’s new skills for youth grant is aimed to help states develop detailed career readiness action plan to expand economic opportunity for young people.

Mississippi will receive $100,000 dollars to perform a diagnostic assessment of our career preparation system and prepare for implementation of a new action plan.

State statistics show 66 percent of Mississippi jobs fall within the definition of middle skills, but only 31 percent of our workforce has the requirements to fill those positions.

The hope is grants like these will help prepare more of our young people for successful entry into the workforce.
