Mississippi breaks single-day record of new COVID-19 cases with 611 statewide

(WXXV) — On Tuesday, the Mississippi State Department of Health reported 611 new cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi and 11 new deaths.

This sets a new record for the highest single-day increase in COVID-19 cases.

Mississippi’s total of COVID-19 cases since March 11 now stands at 22,898, with 989 deaths.

In South Mississippi, the cases by county as of Tuesday, June 23 are as follows:

  • George — 58 (5 new)
  • Hancock — 103 (0 new)
  • Harrison — 499 (35 new)
  • Jackson —425 (23 new)
  • Pearl River — 227 (1 new)
  • Stone — 43 (1 new)

Currently there are 489 Mississippians hospitalized with confirmed COVID-19 infection, and 175 with suspected COVID-19.

There are currently 82 active outbreaks of COVID-19 in long-term care facilities (where an outbreak is one or more cases among residents or staff).

MSDH also reports that 17,242 people in Mississippi have presumably recovered from the novel coronavirus.
