Mississippi Airports Awarded Nearly $5 Million

Nearly $5 million in grant money is being awarded to Mississippi airports by the United states Department of Transportation on behalf of the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport is earmarked to get more than $300,000 of this money.

U.S. Senators Roger Wicker and Cindy Hyde-Smith made a joint announcement this week, calling the grants a significant investment in airport improvements in Mississippi.

The head of the U.S Department of Transportation says the grant money is a significant investment in airport improvements in Mississippi that will fund construction and rehabilitation projection, ultimately maintaining high levels of safety while traveling by air. In Gulfport, the $319,500 it receives will be used to update the airport’s master plan study.

Other airports in South Mississippi receiving funds include:

Trent Lott International Airport in Pascagoula, MS, $138,000 – grant funds will be used to rehabilitate the airport’s runway.

 Poplarville-Pearl River County Airport in Poplarville, MS, $70,000 – grant funds will be used to improve the airport’s access road and drainage.
