Miles for Smiles on the Coast

For the third year in a row, people are walking from Mobile to New Orleans to raise money for Miles for Smiles.

This afternoon, teams made their way through South Mississippi. This is all to help individuals with disabilities attend summer camp at Camp Smile in Mobile.

The walk began in 2016 when Camp Smile Director Jake Alvarez wanted to make it easier for campers to attend. Last year, the walk brought in over $15,000 and in 2016 over $10,000. Camp Smile Assistant Director Molly Schemm said, “We have campers that literally come for their life, which is a fantastic thing to be able to offer. We are located in Mobile, Alabama, but we have campers that travel from Texas, Louisiana, Ohio. We really serve a demographic of as many people as we can get.”

Ann Richardson walked for Miles for Smiles. She said, “It’s just wonderful to be out here in Gulfport on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and just enjoying the sunshine and walking and it is good.”
