MHSAA high school football rule changes

A couple of new rules are coming to the high school football ranks in 2019, passed down by the Mississippi High School Activities Association.

For starters, a 40-second play clock from the time the previous play is blown dead as opposed to a 25-second play clock from the time the ball is spotted. The rationale is to keep pace of play more consistent for both sides, despite concerns that run-heavy teams will be able to drain more time off the clock.

In addition, the MHSAA will adopt instant replay in state championship games, following in the footsteps of the MAIS, which utilized such technology in 2018.
