MGM Park to Host Conference USA Baseball Tournament

There was a big announcement out of MGM Park today. Restaurants, hotels and local businesses will all benefit. More baseball is on its way to Biloxi and USM fans on the Coast won’t be disappointed.
“Conference USA, along with Overtime Sports, the city of Biloxi, Harrison County, the state of Mississippi has all unanimously decided to call Biloxi, the greater Gulf Coast and American Star Field at MGM Park it’s home for the years 2017 through 2019,” said Overtime Sports President Tim Bennett.
Fifteen games in five days featuring teams from across the nation will be coming to MGM Park in 2017 to duke it out for the best team in Conference USA. The winner automatically books their ticket to the NCAA Regional Tournament. One team hoping to do this is Mississippi’s very own Southern Miss, who is excited to play in their own backyard. “We have a huge base of fans on the Coast, that’s going to work to our advantage. I’m very excited about that and then I think the people in Hattiesburg are going to zoom down the highway,” said USM Athletic Director Bill McGillis.
Teams won’t just be coming from up the highway, they’ll flock to the Coast from other states like Texas, West Virginia, Kentucky and beyond to support their favorite college baseball team. “We’ll do what works and that’s open this up to the entire Gulf Coast, extend some good hospitality and hope that they come into the gates,” said Bennett.
City officials hope guests who do more than just come into the gates. Biloxi Mayor FoFo Gilich said, “I’ve seen what Omaha does, you know the hotel rooms and just the excitement in restaurants and museums and exhibits. It’s heads in beds and that’s what this is going to be. The number of schools and where they’re coming from is going to be exciting because it’s going to be a first look, first opportunity to make that impression.”
