MGCCC opens new dormitory on Perkinston campus
School is back in session and a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new dormitory was a great way to start the semester at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
The $15 million dormitory is reserved for female students. Centrally located between the bookstore and student union dining hall, each floor has its own lobby and study rooms.
The dorms are now open for residents to move in for the 2021 spring semester. MGCCC Community College President Mary Graham said, “Our band is here, lots of student organizations and so students really want a traditional living environment and so we’re providing that, again since we’ve had waiting list. We knew we needed to expand that footprint. The dorm is funded by our four county supervisors Harrison, Jackson, Stone, and George. We’ll have 203 beds available; we have students moving in today and tomorrow.”
Students are settling into the new dorms right before school starts on Monday. MGCCC plans to continue renovating and building up the 110-year-old campus.
