MGCCC new athletic director starts August 1st
In search of a new leader for the Mississippi Gulf Coast Athletic Department, the Bulldogs landed on a familiar face. Steven Campbell Jr. is the man for the job and he’s ready to hit the ground running.
A former football standout at MGCCC, Campbell is just six years removed from his playing days, having served as an assistant coach ever since.
Starting August 1st, he’ll step in as the new athletic director where his father used to coach football for eight years. As a longtime member of the Bulldog family, Campbell says he’s got a pretty good idea of what it takes to maintain the winning tradition of six national championships. “Obviously my first love was football, but I do have a true love for all sports so it’s going to be great to kind of get to work with them all now. I’ve got to make a name for myself. My dad did a great job, did a lot for this program, but now it’s definitely time for me to put my own stamp on the program. (And any words of encouragement your dad gave you?) He said to just jump in and just like anything else I’ve done, dive in head first and start swimming and then come up for air whenever you can. (Any particular stroke you might be swimming?) Ha! Freestyle.”
The football program produced four of those national titles along with women’s basketball and golf. Colin Troxler won the latter as an individual title this year.
