MGCCC apprenticeship signing ceremony

Today was an exciting day for one company and local college as they celebrate their partnership.

Keesler Federal Credit Union and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College have partnered up to create an apprenticeship program for the branch managers at Keesler. Keesler CEO Andy Swoger said, “We are the first financial institution in the state of Mississippi to do an apprenticeship program like this. We have 18 members from the Keesler Federal Credit Union team that are participating in it.”

Branch managers from Keesler Federal Credit Union are taking classes through MGCCC that help them gain new skills. Regional Manager Ben Donald said, “This is teaching us everything from communication skills to social media development to personal development within our careers. So, we are honored that Keesler Federal Credit Union has taken this interest in us.”

Everyone who is participating in this apprenticeship is working full time all while taking classes to better themselves. “We know that it is going to pay off in the end. We are taking an average of two to three classes per semester as well as we are keeping a log that keeps up with our daily activities as a branch manager so that the group coming forward after us, they will not only have the classes to take, but they will also know the daily operations of what a branch manager does in the branch on a daily basis,” said Donald.

MGCCC has been doing apprenticeship programs for years in more traditional areas. MGCCC President Mary Graham said, “So this is new for us because we’re launching into a professional level in terms of training for the business and industry and banking and financing arena. We are really excited about that.”
