Memorial Physician Clinic providing drive-up COVID-19 testing Isiah Fredericks Community Center on Friday

GULFPORT, Miss. — A Memorial Physician Clinic Drive-Up COVID-19 Screening and Testing site will be available Friday, April 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Isiah Fredericks Community Center, 3312 Martin Luther King Jr, Gulfport.

The MS State Epidemiologist, Dr. Paul Byers, stated, there exists “racial disparities in the number of cases and some racial disparities in [African American] deaths” as it pertains to COVID-19. COVID-19 is known to exacerbate pre-existing conditions such as heart disease and diabetes, diseases that are prevalent in African American individuals. Memorial will manage a drive-up clinic in an historically African American community on Friday, April 10 to ensure access to COVID-19 screening and testing is available to residents.

“Our goal is to minimize the spread of infection in our communities. We have implemented respiratory caution clinics throughout the Coast, and we are eager to do our part in working with community leaders to determine the greatest need. We were able to stand-up clinics for screening and testing purposes quickly, our staff is well-trained, and our processes are seamless. We can establish a site to ensure we are doing whatever it takes to fight this disease,” said Matt Walker, Memorial Physician Clinics Vice President of Clinical Operations.

Individuals are urged to visit the screening site if they have been experiencing flu-like symptoms, body aches, fever, coughing, sneezing, chills, or shortness of breath please come to be evaluated. Sick individuals are asked to stay in their vehicles and wait for assistance. Social distancing will be observed. Individuals exhibiting symptoms that meet the criteria will be tested.

If one had insurance, it may be filed for reimbursement. If they don’t, Memorial Hospital has options available. But no co-pay or out-of-pocket expense at the time of service.

The response to the clinic in that location will determine the need to add additional dates. Currently, it is planned for one day only. Memorial is currently operating seven additional COVID-19 testing clinics. For information call, (228) 867-5000.
