Memorial Hospital Partners with Local Schools to Offer COVID-19 Vaccinations

March 25, 2021 (GULFPORT, Miss.)—Memorial will administer the 2nd dose Pfizer vaccines for Biloxi teachers, staff and employees in K-12, preschool or childcare settings tomorrow, March 26, at the Biloxi High School gymnasium.

Memorial has partnered with Gulfport, Long Beach, Pass Christian, Biloxi, Harrison and Hancock counties school districts to administer the COVID-19 vaccine to teachers as quickly and efficiently as possible. Director of Business Development for Memorial, Ashley Comstock, reached out to school districts in early January, asking if we could assist their staff. “We wanted to make it easy and efficient for their teachers and staff to access the vaccine, to cause as little disruption to their daily routine as possible. So, it made sense to set up on a campus of their choice, a central location, where they could direct their teachers to.”

“Behind the healthcare industry, education was the most impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Memorial Vice-President, System Development Chas Pierce. “Not only did Covid-19 disrupt the education of our children, but the side effects of children having to stay home for remote learning, and how this effected families, as far as work and other areas, was devasting. Also, public schools offered many services to our children, particularly the underserved kids as far as meals and other programs. So, it was extremely important to get teachers and staff vaccinated so we could return to some normal routines for everyone,” said Pierce.

Pierce went on to say, “It really has been a great success, and it points to the dedication and commitment of our education community to continue to provide the best education possible to our kids. We will continue to partner and work with our school districts to meet the needs that come up related to COVID-19.”

To date, Memorial has administered over 20,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
