Memorial Hospital Biloxi Introduces Advanced Heart Pump Technology for Cardiac Patients
Biloxi, Miss. (WXXV) — There is good news for people living with heart disease on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Memorial Hospital Biloxi is now offering an advanced treatment designed to help improve blood flow to the heart and support patients suffering from severe coronary artery disease and other cardiac conditions.
Coronary artery disease remains one of the leading causes of death in the United States. The condition occurs when plaque builds up inside the arteries that supply blood to the heart, restricting circulation and increasing the risk of heart attacks and other serious complications.
To help patients facing these challenges, Memorial Hospital Biloxi has introduced the Impella CP, a small heart pump that can provide temporary circulatory support during complex cardiac procedures and emergencies.
“Impella is a small heart pump that is advanced through the arteries and placed directly into the heart,” said Dr. Rogin Subedi, a cardiologist at Memorial Hospital Biloxi. “What Impella does is help circulate and pump blood throughout the body, especially when the heart has been weakened by advanced heart failure or after a major heart attack. By supporting circulation and blood flow, it allows us to perform complex coronary procedures more safely and effectively.”
The Impella CP may offer new hope for patients who previously had limited treatment options. The device can help reduce symptoms, improve blood flow, and potentially lower the risk of future cardiac complications.
Dr. Subedi also said, “The partnership between the South Mississippi Heart Center and Memorial Hospital Biloxi has allowed us to grow and expand cardiovascular services here. As a group, along with all of our partners, we are committed to continuing to bring advanced treatments and technology to the people of Biloxi and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.”
The Impella CP is now available to eligible patients as part of Memorial Hospital Biloxi’s ongoing effort to enhance cardiovascular care and provide advanced treatment options close to home.
