Memorial Children’s Wall officially unveiled in Ocean Springs

It’s a day to celebrate and honor the memory of loved ones for some in the Ocean Springs community.

A group of parents, known as the Compassionate Friends, spent five years getting the Memorial Children’s Wall up and running. Today was the official unveiling of the 200-brick wall that started as just an idea more than two decades ago.

The groundbreaking for the wall was in 2016 and today, it’s free and open for the public to enjoy.

Judy Lamey is a parent with a brick on the wall. She says parents who lose children never stop grieving, but she’s happy there’s a place for parents to go. “It’s a great place to come and sit and reflect and remember the good times you had. Of course, you’re going to have the sad times too, but it’s good to have the good times with a place to go. We did it for everyone.”

Though no more bricks will be added to the wall, if you’re interested in joining the Compassionate Friends group, they meet the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Ocean Springs Library.
