MDEQ Lifts One Beach Water Contact Advisory

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, lifted a water contact advisory for one beach monitoring station on Wednesday. Water samples at this station show the area has attained acceptable bacteria levels. There are currently five other stations under an advisory.
Advisory has been lifted for the following station:

►Station 15 – Shearwater Beach – from Weeks Bayou eastward to Ashley.

The following stations are still under advisory:

►Station 1– Lakeshore Beach– from Silver Slipper Casino eastward to Poinset.

►Station 6 – Pass Christian Central Beach – from Henderson Ave to Heirn Ave.

►Station 11 – Gulfport East – from Tegarden eastward to Anniston Ave.

►Station 13A – Biloxi East – from Dukate eastward to Kuhn St.

►Station 19 – Pascagoula Beach West – from Oliver eastward to Westwood.

When water samples show that levels are safe for human contact, the advisories will be lifted. Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall event.
