McKeithen family honored at First Responders Night
In an effort to support our local heroes, WXXV presented First Responders Night at MGM Park for the Biloxi Shuckers game.
It was a really special night at MGM Park as the community came together to support our first responders. The rain couldn’t stop the fun.
First Responders Night at MGM Park was extra special on Thursday as the team paid tribute to fallen Biloxi Police Officer Robert McKeithen. Biloxi Shuckers Sales Executive Kory Dumond said, “These people do so much for us day-in and day-out, so it is nice to kind of have a night to specifically recognize them and obviously honor the memory of fallen Officer McKeithen.”
Officer Robert McKeithen’s family was in attendance and received a $40,000 check from Tunnel to Towers and the White House Hotel. “I hope it is just a little comfort for them. You can’t make everything right, but hopefully it gives them a little bit of comfort and a little cushion.”
Justin Lopez, a local firefighter and director of Tunnel to Tower Biloxi, said giving back to the McKeithen family was a very special and personal experience. “I would want someone to do it for me and to be able to have someone’s back, all first responders have each other’s backs. So, we won’t let someone go empty-handed or forgotten.”
The Shuckers baseball players all wore jerseys with McKeithen’s badge number. Attendees had the chance to win one of the custom jerseys in an auction. “The turnout is great. We had a little rough weather today, but people from the Gulf Coast know all about that. So, all things considered, I think we had a great night and great support, just listen to the crowd behind me.”
