Mayor Billy Hewes discusses upcoming plans for City of Gulfport

After being elected to his third term as mayor of Gulfport, claiming nearly 64% of the vote in yesterday’s municipal general election, Mayor Billy Hewes discussed the plans for the next four years for the city.

In his second term, Hewes oversaw the opening of the long-awaited Mississippi Aquarium, expansion of the Gulfport Sportsplex, and continued to push the ‘One Coast’ mindset.

Hewes says working toward his vision for the city, along with the help of his team, has resulted in ‘good growing pains for Gulfport.’

For these next four years, Hewes wants some of his focuses to include infrastructure, roads, easing some of the traffic congestion, and public safety. “We have a lot of folks that have come in. The Aquarium has been a catalyst for new development, new business. The blue economy is bringing in a lot of high-tech, high-end jobs. Hundreds of them. We’re seeing the real estate market just take off. And developments of hundreds of homes are springing up all around the city. So, this next term is going to be a continuation of what we’ve tried to do to make this a great place to live, work, and play. It’s cliché, but it’s true.”
