Marine Patrol on shrimp season

Yesterday morning at 6 a.m., the 2018-2019 shrimp season officially opened.

This means all regulations of the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources will be in full force and effect and all boats engaged in catching or transporting shrimp from Mississippi waters must be licensed or permitted by the MDMR before beginning operations.

Additionally, marine patrol officers will be available to perform dockside courtesy inspections of turtle excluder devices upon request of shrimpers.

Marine patrol also tells News 25 they will be patrolling waters 24 hours a day to make sure all regulations are met. Bryce Gex with Mississippi Marine Patrol said, “We have 24 hour patrols through the sound so we will be out here all the time. Of course, their boat and water safety and their gear like their life jackets, fire extinguishers, throwable devices, flares, and making sure that all their gear is correct. They don’t have oversize thraws and so forth.”
