Man shoots at police during domestic incident in Biloxi

What started out as a home invasion took a dangerous turn when a man started shooting at police.

Michael Anthony Hamilton has been charged with assault, aggravated use of deadly weapon or means likely to produce death or serious bodily harm. He was taken to the Harrison County jail and held on $50,000 bond set by Justice Judge Albert Fountain.

According to Capt. Brian Dykes, Biloxi Police responded to a call about 1:53 a.m. Sunday about a possible home invasion on Hiller Drive.

A suspect, identified as Hamilton, allegedly broke into the home where his wife was visiting and engaged in a domestic dispute, armed with a handgun.

Officers made Hamilton shortly after he left the residents and ordered him to drop the handgun. Hamilton pointed his weapon at officer and an officer fired his duty weapon at Hamilton, missing him. At that point, Hamilton dropped his weapon and was taken into custody, Dykes said.

During the investigation it was discovered that Hamilton also shot at an individual while he was at the Hiller Drive residence.

Per Biloxi Police policy, the officer who fired his weapon was placed on administrative leave pending the investigation of the incident.
