Man Killed in D’Iberville

On September 14, 2016, at approximately 11:40 P.M., D’Iberville Police Department responded to a reported suicide attempt. Upon officer’s arrival, and entry into the apartment, they located a white male who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove identified the victim as 36 year of Rondal Brent Butler Jr. Butler was treated at the scene by personnel from the D’Iberville Fire Department and American Medical Response before being transported to Merit Health in Biloxi where he later succumbed to his injury early this morning while being treated in ICU. 33 year old Michael Allan Pittman, who reported the incident as an attempted suicide, was later arrested and charged with Manslaughter.

The probable cause for the arrest was based on interviews and physical evidence recovered during the investigation, which did not support how the shooting was originally reported to the police. Chief Payne said D’Iberville Police department received assistance from the Harrison County Corners Office and the Harrison County District Attorney’s.

Captain Marty Griffin said Pittman was transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center and booked on the charge of Manslaughter with a bond of $500,000.00 set by Harrison County Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain pending an initial appearance.
