Man Arrested after Fleeing from Police

A routine traffic stop turned into a foot pursuit in Gulfport this morning.
A 9 mm gun and drugs were found inside of a black man’s gold Expedition after he was stopped on Whitney Drive around 11:30.
A Harrison County sheriff’s deputy had to chase the man, weighing around 300 pounds, down the road after he took off on foot.
Harrison County authorities tell News 25 the man is a convicted felon and has been arrested. A K9 unit combed through the streets searching for drugs from the chase. A witness tells News 25 he saw the man throw something during the pursuit.
The active scene concerned residents living in the area. Gulfport resident David Washington said, “It is kind of unsettling, kind of uncomfortable to pull up and see your whole neighborhood blocked off and to not even be spoken to or explained to what’s going on in a neighborhood where you stay and you pay all your bills. It’s like your subjected to these things, but you’re not treated as a human or respected as an adult.”
The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department is leading this investigation.
