Mammothon at Keesler Medical Center
Keesler Air Force Base, typically red, white, and blue, was covered in pink today for their fifth annual Mammothon.
The cancer screening and preventative health fair holds walk-in screenings for multiple types of cancer and chronic diseases in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Those offered include skin, oral, breast and cervical cancer. There is also access for colonoscopy screenings and assessments for prostate cancer.
Officials at Mammothon tell News 25 the key to medical treatment is early detection. Chief of Mammography Dr. Matthew Barchie said, “Find out early so you can prevent the effects of it and you can treat it better. While we have people here, we’re helping people take charge of their health and take care of those things early. We’re breaking down barriers to allow them, basically to bring the hospital to them.”
