‘Making Strides against Breast Cancer’ walk

We’re all holding out, hoping the weather will be picture perfect for this weekend’s fundraising events in the fight against breast cancer. October is ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month.’

South Mississippians have railed together, hosting awareness and fundraising events throughout the area.

One of these events is the annual ‘Making Strides against Breast Cancer’ Saturday morning at the Biloxi Town Green.

Courtney Anderson is the community development manager for the American Cancer Society in South Mississippi. She says money raised at Saturday’s walk goes right back into our local community to fund programs such as ‘Road to Recovery,’ a program that provides transportation for those who have no way to get to their doctor’s appointments and treatments. “We have volunteers. Everybody doesn’t come from walks where they can go in to see doctors right away. Some people, I’ve seen it first-hand, were in the waiting room, just hoping and praying that their insurance would go through that day, and I remember just thinking ‘why?’”

‘Making Strides of the Mississippi Gulf Coast’ wants victims and survivors to be united during their most trying times.

Check in for the walk begins at 7 a.m. on Saturday. The walk begins at 9 a.m.

You can register online at the American Cancer Society’s website here.
