M.D.O.T. Says Coast Was Fortunate After Severe Weather

The Mississippi Department of Transportation (M.D.O.T.) reports the Coast was fortunate compared to other parts of the state after Monday night’s severe weather.

M.D.O.T. sand crews could be seen sweeping up Highway 90 Tuesday morning, removing sand that flew up onto the road. Crews say they were prepared for the worst, but are thankful the damage was less than previous storms.

Chuck Starita, a Project Engineer for M.D.O.T., says, “Well actually, the local highways got really lucky. We dodged a big bullet, so we’re not having a whole lot to deal with this morning. The Highway 90 is picking up, we have one crew picking up sand in random spots, but that’s not as bad as we’ve seen in the past.”

M.D.O.T. says there were reports of fallen tree limbs in the area, but none that required crews to pick them up.
