Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann visits the Coast

Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann made a visit to the Coast today, meeting with local mayors to discuss recovery plans after Hurricane Zeta.

He stopped at the Long Beach Harbor, moved to Pass Christian, and then Biloxi. Hosemann says he’s already looking ahead at the next legislative session and plans to provide funding to help the Coast next hurricane season.

For now, though, Hosemann came ready to get his hands dirty with local residents, bringing his chainsaw, water, and candy bars. “First of all, that we’re here, and the governor will be here shortly, and MEMA’s here, and we’re going to take the sand off the highways and MDOT’s working on that now, but there are some permanent damages here. We were blessed. We had one loss of life, which is horrible, and we’ve had several injuries but it’s not the devastation of Katrina. We will build again, they will rebuild. The heart of Mississippi is right here.”

Hosemann tells News 25 he knows everyone is tired and worn out from 2020, but says he also knows the Coast is resilient and will make it through.
