Lovers Lane Tree Again Up for Discussion

Video of Lovers Lane, shot by Ocean Springs Mayor Connie Moran, put the fate of the leaning oak tree back on the table during tonight’s board of aldermen’s meeting.
The mayor presented possible alternatives the city could take to keep drivers safe if the tree does not come down. One of those options would include an emergency light that would warn drivers when a fire truck is quickly approaching. City Council members moved into a closed session where they discussed options for the oak tree in detail for over an hour.
Lovers Lane resident Jason Payne said, “I think putting up a lighting system, I know driving up and down the lane, it can be a tight squeeze going around the tree. So, a lighting system would be good to help oncoming traffic know that the fire truck is coming.”
Plenty of Ocean Springs residents and residents of Lovers Lane showed up to tonight’s meeting wearing green as a way to display their support in keeping the tree right where it is.
