“Our Love Affair with Baseball” Luncheon

A former award winning LSU pitcher says it is being from Biloxi that has driven his success.
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and LSU baseball standout Doug Thompson spoke to the crowd at the “Our Love Affair with Baseball” luncheon in Biloxi.
Thompson took great pride in telling the guests at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art that his baseball journey started right here in Biloxi.
He says growing up in a town strong enough to overcome major disasters like Katrina has made him a better competitor, not just in baseball, but in life. “The main thing I was kind of driving home is with regard of the parallels between Biloxi and the people of Biloxi and the fiber that Biloxi is made up of and kind of the things that are required to play baseball. You know, you have to be resilient, you have to work hard and I think those qualities epitomize what it’s like to be from this town.”
Thompson ended his speech with baseball jokes.
WXXV is a proud sponsor of the luncheon. Next week, Biloxi Shuckers owner Tim Bennett is set to speak.
