Louisiana man charged in connection with fatal Memorial Day Weekend road rage shooting

Biloxi, MS – A Louisiana man has been arrested and charged in connection with the road rage incident that happened on May 25, 2020, at approximately 4:30pm, on Interstate 10 westbound near the 51-mile marker in Jackson County.

A white 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 pulling an enclosed trailer was involved in a road rage incident with a white Ford Eco Sport bearing Louisiana license plates.

The road rage incident lasted for nearly 20 miles in the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 before multiple rounds were fired from the Ford Eco Sport into the Dodge Ram, one of those rounds struck the driver. The driver of the Dodge, Brandon Wayne Box, was transported to Ocean Springs Hospital where he was pronounced dead from injuries sustained by a single gunshot wound.

The white Ford continued west on Interstate 10.

On July 17, 2020, at approximately 9:00am, agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation with the assistance of the D.E.A. Task Force, and Hammond Police Department arrested Janvique Entrael Franklin Jr. without incident. Franklin has been charged with homicide; killing without malice in the heat of passion, and he is currently being held at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center with a $500,000 bond.

Through the course of the investigation the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation had assistance from several agencies that made the arrest possible. Those agencies are as follows; Mobile County Sheriff Department, Jackson County Sheriff Department, Moss Point Police Department, Gautier Police Department, D’Iberville Police Department, Harrison County Sheriff Department, Gulfport Police Department, Hammond Police Department, Drug Enforcement Administration, Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers, and The Mississippi Highway Patrol.
