Long Beach Hopes to Adopt an Ordinance to Remove Slabs Left from Katrina

Long Beach officials are looking to adopt an ordinance to help move past Hurricane Katrina devastation.
Katrina turned many Long Beach homes and businesses into just cement slabs. Many residents feel that these slabs are not only an eyesore, but a constant reminded of unwanted memories.
Long Beach Mayor Billy Skellie hopes the ordinance will encourage property owners to clean up the damage that’s been left behind. “It’s just a continual reminder of Hurricane Katrina and the devastation that took place. You’d like to kind of get on past it, you know. I hope that people will take some pride into helping us do that.”
