Local woman asks for help after father’s ashes are stolen from truck

After getting married at Jones Park on New Years Day, Jen Jones was robbed of her father’s ashes while having a celebratory toast with her wedding party at the VFW in Gulfport where she worked for ten years.

Friday night around 6 p.m. at the VFW on 15206 Dedeaux Road in Gulfport, Jen Jones realized someone got in her husband’s pick-up truck and stole her purse. Inside her purse were her wedding vows, father’s urn, and every cent she had to her name.

Jen filed a police report and created the Facebook group ‘To Catch a Thief on the Gulf Coast’ as a way to reach out to the community for help.

The group has rallied a lot of attention and Jen hopes it brings the community a little bit closer. “It’s affected my eating, my sleeping, my mood. There’s nothing that can replace him. However, having his ashes as a small memento of a part of him, it was all I had left and somebody took it, without a care in the world. Maybe something positive can come from the group and the social media presence and so forth because we as a community need to come together and make this a better community for our future generations.”

Jen Jones is asking to drop off her father’s ashes to any fire department, VFW, or safe haven so she can be reunited with the only piece of her father she has left.
