Local veteran’s final wish

Earlier this week, News 25 told you about a retired Seabee who has passed away. His final wish was to have as many Seabees as possible at his funeral.

Today, Hubert Dale Bass, also known as Sam Bass, had his wish granted. Hundreds of veterans attended Sam’s funeral at the Biloxi National Cemetery.

Sam fought in the Korean War and the Vietnam War before retiring in 1979.

His family said that Sam would have loved the fact that so many people showed up to support him today. Sam’s son-in-law Mark Cruthirds said, “He dedicated his life to the Seabees and everything that he would tell you he would always say ‘can do,’ the Seabee motto, that’s one thing I’ll remember for the rest of my days. I know that as a patriot, he is looking down and he saw the crowd.”

Sam Bass had a grave site service with full military honors given by the United States Navy.
