Local teachers react to COVID-19 vaccine eligibility

Who is next in line for the COVID-19 vaccine? Teachers and first responders step right up.

Governor Tate Reeves announced the two groups are now eligible for the vaccination. Gulfport High teacher Beth Wilson says she was thrilled when the news broke.

Wilson says many teachers were disappointed to not have received the vaccine sooner. “I’m really excited. Actually, I was one of the first people who jumped on and signed up. I will have my vaccine early March. We’re super excited and it’s very comforting to know that this is available to us. I believe protecting teachers not only protects our students, it also impacts our whole community.”

Around 350,000 people in Mississippi have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as of Tuesday, according to the State Department of Health.
