Local organization giving away car seats to those in need

Christmas is just around the corner, but some local families will get just the boost, or booster seat, they need just in time for the holidays.

Mercy Housing is equipping those in need with just what they need: car seats to help ensure the safety of their children.

It is all a part of their Safe Kids Gulf Coast program.

Event coordinators say the giveaway will take place after those who have signed up take an online safety and installation seminar tomorrow and that this giveaway could not come at a better time as many face additional financial challenges due to COVID. Xuan Tran with Mercy Housing said, “An average car seat costs around $150-$600, so it’s very important. Most parents can’t afford that. I can’t afford that, and I’m expecting-I really am – so it’s really important to be able to do this.”

All of the car seats donated are set to be distributed Friday at Mercy Housing in Gulfport.
